RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

Homeowners have not had an effective means of fighting
infestation of their waterfront by aquatic weeds (usually milfoil or
lily pads). They have tried raking them or dragging chains over the
weed bed to break off the weeds. Besides being difficult, these methods
just worsen the problem because each fragment of milfoil is capable of
rerooting as a new plant. The result is increased weed proliferation
and the spread of the weed problem to adjoining properties.

Eventually the weeds win and life along the water loses much
of it attraction. Few people enjoy swimming in weeds. Jet ski intakes
and boat propellers become fouled. Sport fishing declines as the
milfoil kills off the natural habitat.

Aquatic Weed Control offers these effective
solutions to
homeowners:
Integrated
Aquatic Weed Management Plans are the superior
solutions in that they take advantage
of a variety of control methods. Each
site has it’s own specific requirements for weed control.
By taking the best aspects of various
control methods, we are able to give our customers the longest-lasting
and most
cost effective solutions available. For
more information, contact Aquatic Weed Control at (206) 772-6036 or

Bottom
Barrier is the most cost effective
and longest lasting mechanical control technique. A bottom barrier is a
layer of a specially designed material anchored atop the weed bed. It
prevents the weeds from getting light. They die and decay under the
barrier. Click here for more
information.
Mechanical harvesting, as we perform it,
is a particularly environmentally friendly solution. Aquatic Weed
Control has a proprietary vacuum technology that allows our divers to
capture every weed they pull and dispose of the weeds at an upland
commercial compost facility. This technique may be applied to your
entire
property. This aquatic weed solution is excellent for highly selective
weed control and for operations in restricted areas, such as around
boat lifts and under docks. For
more information click here.
Bottom Barrier combined with mechanical harvesting is
a superior solution in that it takes advantage of the particular
advantages of both systems. For more information, contact Aquatic Weed
Control at (206) 772-6036 or email us at info@milfoilman.com.
Herbicidal application is a good
solution for larger areas or to achieve specific treatment goals.
Herbicidal treatments are reserved for projects where no mechanical
treatment alternative would provide satisfactory cost-effective
solutions. Many times, herbicidal treatments and mechanical control
strategies are used in conjunction to provide high levels of
long-lasting control.
Herbicide use by itself in general, is not an eradication tool.
Follow-up surveys and commercial diving operations are needed for high
effectiveness.
Floating
biomass removal.
Do you have a problem with large floating clumps of milfoil, also known
as racks? We offer Floating Biomass Removal. Some properties, by being
on the lee shore of prevailing winds or by having pronounced shoreline
curves, regularly trap floating masses of weeds and debris, which rot
and turn the shore into a smelly morass of muck. We collect and remove
these racks of biomass. Regular collection of floating biomass helps
keep you water property clean and your property value high. Our
vessel-based service allows us to reach your waterfront property,
remove the biomass, and leave without stepping foot on your dock or
shore. This is a contract service in which you are charged only for the
time we work on your property. This service is currently offered in the
Puget Sound region only. For more information, click here.
